Short answer: The Namma Metro Phase 3 route is two elevated corridors, together called the Orange Line. One runs 32.15 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the western outer ring road, with 22 stations. The other runs 12.50 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere on Magadi Road, with 9. It was approved in 2024 with a 2029 target.
- Approved, not built: the Union Cabinet approved Phase 3 on 16 Aug 2024 at ₹15,611 crore. The foundation stone was laid in August 2025.
- Still early: BMRCL invited bids for a general consultant in October 2026 and has applied for a JICA loan (news).
- Six metro interchanges: the line meets the Pink, Green, Purple and Blue Lines, plus two railway stations.
- Stations every 1.5 km or so: on the DPR's figures, most homes between two stations would be within about 750 m of one.
- Our 3D station test: distance, date, disruption.
Phase 3 matters most to buyers in south-west, west and north-west Bengaluru, areas the metro largely skips today. This guide lists every station in the official project report, says which other lines each one meets, and is honest about timing.
What is the Namma Metro Phase 3 route?
The Union Cabinet approved two elevated corridors, 44.65 km and 31 stations in all (PIB, 16 Aug 2024):
| Corridor | From–to | Along | Length | Stations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | JP Nagar 4th Phase–Kempapura | Western outer ring road | 32.15 km | 22 |
| 2 | Hosahalli–Kadabagere | Magadi Road | 12.50 km | 9 |
The approval said Bengaluru would have a 220.20 km network once Phase 3 runs. The common depot is planned at Sunkadakatte (The Hindu, 7 Oct 2026, news).
Which stations are on Phase 3?
Station names and spacing come from the final detailed project report by RITES for BMRCL, Chapter 6 (DPR via OpenCity). Names and exact spots can change in detailed design.

The interchanges follow the DPR (JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kempapura are built with Phase 2 platforms) and the multi-modal points PIB lists. PIB also mentions skywalk links to Lottegollahalli and Hebbal railway stations. The DPR says eight Corridor 2 stations will first be built for 3-car trains, with platforms extendable to 6 cars later.
Which areas are likely to gain access?
Grouped by stretch, using the station names above:
- South: JP Nagar 4th and 5th Phase, JP Nagar, Kadirenahalli, Kamakya Junction and Hosakerehalli.
- Western ring road: Dwaraka Nagar, Mysore Road, Nagarbhavi, Vinayaka Layout, Papireddy Palya and the BDA complex.
- North-west: Sumanahalli, Chowdeshwari Nagar, Freedom Fighters Colony, Kanteerava Nagar, Peenya, Muthyala Nagar, BEL Circle and Nagashetty Halli.
- North: Hebbal railway station and Kempapura, where it meets the airport line.
- Magadi Road: Hosahalli, KHB Colony, Kamakshipalya, Sunkadakatte, Herohalli, Byadarahalli, Kamath Layout and Kadabagere.
"Access" means a station you can walk to, which depends on your street. Our Hebbal guide shows how several lines meet in one area, and our rates-by-area table lists guidance values for many of these localities.
When will Phase 3 open?
The 2024 approval set a 2029 target. Since then:
| Date | Step | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 16 Aug 2024 | Union Cabinet approval, ₹15,611 crore | PIB |
| 10 Aug 2025 | Foundation stone, project put at over 44 km and 31 elevated stations | PIB |
| Oct 2026 | BMRCL invites general consultancy bids; JICA loan of ¥102.48 billion applied for; 252 coaches to be bought | The Hindu (news) |
The government's own answer in the Lok Sabha says metro projects generally take five to six years from sanction, depending on land, tree permissions and court cases (Lok Sabha Q.3087, 6 Aug 2026). From an August 2024 sanction, that points to 2029 or 2030, if nothing slips. On our 5-rung metro ladder, Phase 3 is between "approved" and "under construction".
Worked examples
Worked example 1: how close the stations are
From the DPR's chainages:
| Corridor | Length between end stations | Gaps | Average gap | Farthest point from a station (average gap) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 31,581 m | 21 | about 1,504 m | about 752 m |
| 2 | 11,590 m | 8 | about 1,449 m | about 724 m |
So a home on the line between two average stations is never more than about 750 m from one. The longest gap, Nagashetty Halli to Hebbal Railway Station, is 2,427 m. Its midpoint is about 1.2 km from either station, roughly a 15-minute walk at 5 km/h. These are along-the-line distances; your real walk will be longer.
Worked example 2: what waiting costs
Illustrative. A ₹1 crore flat with an ₹80 lakh loan over 20 years at an assumed 8.5% has an EMI of about ₹69,426. If Phase 3 opens around late 2029, about three years from now:
| Item | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| EMIs paid before opening | ₹69,426 × 36 | about ₹24,99,336 |
That's money paid before the metro is any use to you. If you'd pay more for a home "on the Orange Line", know how much of that extra you're paying years early. Try other numbers on the EMI calculator.
The 3D station test (our framework)
| Check | Question | How to answer it |
|---|---|---|
| Distance | Which station is nearest, and how long is the real walk? | DPR station list above; walk the route, including crossings |
| Date | What stage is your corridor at today? | The timeline above; treat 2029 as a target |
| Disruption | Will construction run past your gate for years? | Is the home on the ring road or Magadi Road itself? Check the noise and access |
Phase 3 buyer's checklist
- [ ] Nearest Phase 3 station named from the DPR list
- [ ] Walking route and time checked on foot
- [ ] Interchange needed for your commute identified
- [ ] Opening treated as a 2029-or-later target; your plan works without it
- [ ] Construction disruption on your road considered
- [ ] Price compared with similar homes away from the line, with all costs counted (full cost guide)
- [ ] Ward and khata checked (ward lookup)
- [ ] Title and approvals checked by a lawyer (our legal checks guide)
This is general information, not legal advice. Ask a property lawyer to check title and approvals before you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Two elevated corridors, called the Orange Line. Corridor 1 runs 32.15 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the western outer ring road, with 22 stations. Corridor 2 runs 12.50 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road, with 9 stations. Both were approved in August 2024.
The Cabinet's approval in August 2024 set a 2029 target. In October 2026, BMRCL was still inviting bids for a general consultant. The government says metro projects generally take five to six years from sanction, so treat 2029 as a target, not a date.
Corridor 1 has 22, including JP Nagar, Kamakya Junction, Mysore Road, Nagarbhavi Circle, Sumanahalli Cross, Peenya, BEL Circle, Hebbal Railway Station and Kempapura. Corridor 2 has 9, including Hosahalli, Kamakshipalya, Sunkadakatte, Herohalli and Kadabagere. The full list is in the tables above.
According to the project report and PIB, at JP Nagar 4th Phase (Pink), JP Nagar and Peenya (Green), Mysore Road and Hosahalli (Purple) and Kempapura (Blue). Sumanahalli Cross links the two Phase 3 corridors, and Hebbal links to the railway station.
The Union Cabinet approved a completion cost of ₹15,611 crore in August 2024. In October 2026, The Hindu reported that BMRCL had applied for a JICA loan of ¥102.48 billion, covering part of the cost, with BMRCL arranging the rest.
No. Phase 3 is the Orange Line on the western ring road and Magadi Road. The Red Line, Sarjapura to Hebbal, is Phase 3A, a separate 37.804 km proposal from February 2026 that still awaits central approval.
Only if the home makes sense without the metro. Phase 3 is at an early stage, so you could pay several years of EMIs before trains run. Check the real walk to the station, construction on your road and the title, as you would anywhere.
They can. The station list here is from the final project report, and names or exact spots can shift in detailed design. Check BMRCL's latest drawings or tender documents for the station near you before you rely on it.
