Bengaluru air quality by neighbourhood: what 11 KSPCB stations recorded

A city highway with streetlights fading into thick haze

Short answer: From June 2025 to May 2026, the 11 KSPCB stations in Bengaluru averaged a daily AQI of 78, in the Satisfactory band. Saneguruvanahalli was lowest at 49, and Silk Board was highest at 111, with 254 Moderate days. No station had a Poor day. Air was worst from December to April and cleanest in July and August.

Key takeaways
  • 3,960 station-days of KSPCB daily AQI, June 2025 to May 2026: 22% Good, 52% Satisfactory, 26% Moderate, none Poor or worse.
  • Lowest means: Saneguruvanahalli (49), NIMHANS (59), Hebbal Veterinary College (65).
  • Highest means: Silk Board (111), City Railway Station, Majestic (97), RV College of Engineering, Kengeri (92).
  • Season: the all-station average was 56 in August 2025 and 101 in March 2026.
  • Use it as a pointer: 11 stations can't describe every street. Check traffic and construction around a flat yourself.

Every number on this page comes from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board's (KSPCB) monthly reports on its 11 continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations (CAAQMS) in Bengaluru. We took the daily Air Quality Index (AQI) table from each report from June 2025 to May 2026, 12 months and 3,960 station-days, and summarised it by station. KSPCB publishes the reports. OpenCity hosts the full set.

Scroll to load the map. It needs JavaScript and OpenStreetMap tiles. Colours show each station's mean daily AQI from June 2025 to May 2026. KSPCB names its stations but does not give coordinates in these reports, so each marker sits at the OpenStreetMap position of the named site.

How to read the AQI

The AQI turns several pollutants into one number for the day. KSPCB's reports explain that a sub-index is worked out for each pollutant measured, and the worst sub-index becomes the day's AQI. The categories are:

AQICategory
0 to 50Good
51 to 100Satisfactory
101 to 200Moderate
201 to 300Poor
301 to 400Very poor
401 and aboveSevere

An AQI is a daily figure, not an annual average of one pollutant. It also depends on what a station measures. In the May 2026 report, for example, the City Railway Station (Majestic) table lists PM10, SO2, NO2 and CO but no PM2.5.

Station by station, June 2025 to May 2026

Sorted from the lowest mean daily AQI to the highest. Day counts are the days in each category. "Days" is the number of days with an AQI value. Missing days are left out, not filled in. The month columns give the month with the highest and lowest average AQI, with that average in brackets.

No station recorded a Poor, Very poor or Severe day in these 12 months. The highest single reading was 199, at the Silk Board station.

What the pattern shows

Traffic junctions read higher. The station near Central Silk Board in HSR Layout had the highest mean (111) and 254 Moderate days out of 360. City Railway Station at Majestic came next on the mean (97). It had no Good days at all, but it never went above 118.

The lowest readings came from green, institutional sites. Saneguruvanahalli (Nisarga Bhavan) averaged 49 and had just 1 Moderate day. NIMHANS (59) and Hebbal Veterinary College (65) were next.

Industrial areas sit in the middle. Peenya (NTTF) averaged 79 and Jigani 77. Both spent most days in the Satisfactory band.

The season matters as much as the place. Across all 11 stations the average daily AQI was 56 in July and August 2025 and climbed to 101 in March 2026. In March, 184 of 338 station-days were Moderate. In August 2025 it was 21 of 337. Ten of the 11 stations had their worst month between December and April. Peenya was the exception, with July 2025.

The city-wide annual picture. The Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) integrated data for 2023, the latest year it has published, puts Bengaluru's annual averages (listed as Bangalore) at 68 µg/m³ for PM10, 33 for PM2.5, 21 for NO2 and 6 for SO2. The national annual standards are 60 for PM10, 40 for PM2.5, 40 for NO2 and 50 for SO2. So, as a citywide average, PM10 was the pollutant above its annual limit.

How to use this when choosing an area

Find the nearest station, and how far it is

Bengaluru has 11 KSPCB stations here, not one per neighbourhood. A station tells you about the air around it. A flat 6 km away, or on the far side of a highway, can be quite different. Treat the station as a pointer, not a reading for a particular building.

Look at what is next to the flat

The two highest stations sit next to heavy traffic. For any flat, check how close it is to a signal junction, a bus depot, a flyover ramp, a construction site or an industrial unit, and which way the bedrooms face. That is something you can see on a site visit, at peak hour.

Visit in the dry months

A visit in July shows you an area on its cleanest days. If you can, go back between December and April. That is when every station except Peenya had its worst month.

Check the live reading

CPCB's national AQI dashboard shows the current reading for each Bengaluru station. For other area checks, see our groundwater depth map and lake buffer and rajakaluve map.

Method and limits

  • Source tables. We used the "Daily AQI Values of Bengaluru" table in each KSPCB monthly report from June 2025 to May 2026. Means, medians and day counts are our arithmetic on those daily values.
  • Checks. For each month, we compared our per-station minimum and maximum with the Min and Max rows KSPCB prints under the table. They matched in every month except two places. In July 2025 one value wraps onto a second line in the PDF, and we placed it in the Silk Board column. In January 2026 KSPCB's own Max row shows 143 for Jayanagar, while its daily table has 145 on 1 January. We kept the daily value.
  • Gaps. Days with no value ("-" in the report) are left out. Mysore Road (KAVIKA) has the most gaps, with 323 days of data.
  • Map positions. These are OpenStreetMap positions of the named sites (for example "Veterinary College, Hebbal"), not KSPCB coordinates.
  • Not covered. CPCB also runs stations in Bengaluru, such as BTM Layout and Peenya Shivapura. Their data is not in these KSPCB reports, so they are not in this table.

Frequently asked questions

Among the 11 KSPCB stations, Saneguruvanahalli (Nisarga Bhavan) had the lowest mean daily AQI from June 2025 to May 2026, at 49, followed by NIMHANS (59) and Hebbal Veterinary College (65). A station describes its surroundings only, not the whole locality.

Silk Board (HSR Layout), with a mean daily AQI of 111 and 254 Moderate days out of 360. Its highest day was 199.

Not in this period. Across all 11 stations and 12 months, no daily AQI went above 200, the top of the Moderate band.

In the dry months. Averaged across stations, the daily AQI was 56 in July 2025 and 101 in March 2026. Ten of the 11 stations had their worst month between December and April.

No. KSPCB runs 11 continuous stations in Bengaluru, and CPCB runs a few more. A flat several kilometres from the nearest station may have quite different air, so check traffic and construction nearby on a site visit.
